Over My Head! 8/1/23
It is not very often when I feel like I am over my head. Problems arise on the homestead all the time. There seems to be a never-ending list of projects that have to be done with an ever-dwindling amount of cash to do them with. Unlike most of my homesteading friends, I am not crammed for time, for the most part, I have a pension that I depend on every month that affords me The luxury of knowing my bills are paid. Even if there isn't much left over at the end of the month.

A Busy Homestead is a Happy Homestead 7/18/23
It has been a busy couple of weeks on the homestead. It hasn't been the same old gardening and animal work either! If you will recall, My June 27th Blog from this year was about the huge issue of my dug well going dry. Water is a necessity for life, and water on the Homestead is vital in so many areas. Though I was prepared for a short-term water shortage with my summer six-hundred-gallon reservoir totes and my nine-hundred-gallon rainwater catchment system, I Have to say t

Short one Today! 7/11/23
Today's blog is going to be short and sweet. My sister-in-law's transmission went kaput and Trevor needs me to help him this morning. My apologies. In the good news arena, Frank Hunkins (My cousin who drills water wells) showed up on the homestead yesterday and got the rig set up. Talk about memories! This is the same rig I used to run for him back in the early 2000s. So the plan for the day is to meet Trevor in Utica to pick up and deliver a rent-a-car to My sister-in-law

Sometimes You Lose? 6/13/23
When you work with chickens it isn't long before you realize they aren't the brightest crayons in the box. After all, they have a brain the size of a pistachio and peck at their own poop. It is very safe to say that we won't be suffering through a chicken uprising anytime soon. They can be comical to watch, and very entertaining to interact with. I wouldn't change my decision to keep a flock of chickens for anything. After all, They are fairly easy to take care of, and you g

Trying to Make a Green Thumb 5/30/23
Can I be candid with you for a moment? Not that I have been false with you before, but I am about to be really transparent with you. I have NEVER been very good at gardening. There I said it. Wendy was always the gardener on the homestead. I also benefited from my father Pa's prowess as a botanist. He wasn't a scientist, Ph.D., or went to school for it botanist, but the man could plant and grow a garden that would be the envy of many a farmer. I hated gardening when I was g

International Speaking Sensation! 5/9/23
Any of my followers know that this past weekend I went to Ontario for the Eastern Ontario Homesteading Conference to speak on Do It Yourself Solar Systems. This makes the title of this post accurate. I spoke in another country, and I am sure the people attending had many sensations as did I while I was speaking! It went great! Even when I forgot English (The only language I know). It was one of the best weekends I have had in the last couple of years, and that is God's Hones
